About Our Business
Source Ed-Ventures Pte Ltd began as a training & education centre in 1995, offering children's
programmes like phonics, communication & expression, and Young Speakers Club, as well as adults'
seminars on topics like marriage, parenting, and workplace motivation.
We purchased the Riverboat in 1998, initially intending to continue to conduct such educational
programmes on board. However, seeing that she was already fitted out as a restaurant, we decided to
give the Food & Beverage industry a shot. We started Santa Fe Tex-Mex Grill at Boat Quay in 1999,
and later transfered its operations on board the Riverboat in 2001, after a massive retrofit exercise.
Today, F&B has become our core business, and our training & education programmes have been
placed on the back burner until an opportunity arises for them to be revived.
Our Business Philosophy
The essence of our business philosophy is 'stewardship', which is also the inspiration behind the name
'Stewords', which we have given to the Riverboat (The name 'Stewords' reflects 'Stews' and 'Words', which
generally represent to the F&B and the educational aspects of our business respectively). In our company,
all employees are known as stewards, meaning that our role is to manage a property that is not our own.
Stewardship also speaks of delegated authority, accountability and other positive values.
We also have a set of five 'purposes' of our business, which we can hold fast to no matter
what direction our business takes:
Very honestly speaking, the main aim of doing business is to earn money - lots of it!
To build lasting relationships with individuals... we're not a fly-by-night company.
To make our presence felt... because a good name is better than great riches.
To not limit ourselves to what we are today.
To keep us on the straight and narrow.
With these in mind, we look forward to taking on various exciting challenges, and allowing the
business to blossom in whatevery area as may be! Be it in performing arts, health & wellness, retreats
& workshops, or even back to training & education... everything comes to life where the River flows.
