Daryl Saw
Chief Operating Steward

Hi, I’m Daryl, and I’m the second generation of the Saw family to run this business.

basically entered the F&B industry by default, having grown up in a restaurant environment since Santa Fe opened in 1999 when I was 12 years old. I still vividly remember the first time I served a customer as a young teen: walking slowly with two glasses of iced water in hands, placing it on the table, and then standing there smiling at the couple for an awkward 20-odd seconds. ‘Service with a smile’ at its extreme!

Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to learn and help out in many areas of the business from customer service to accounts & admin, menu planning to sales & marketing. The only area which I have yet to learn, to date, is cooking. Over the years, my interest in the business grew greatly, especially with the opening of the Riverboat in 2001. My family and I would spend almost every weekend and most of the school holidays at the Riverboat, interacting with staff and customers, and coming up with ideas to develop the business.

I left school in Secondary 4, originally intending to take up a culinary course at a local institution. However, it was a blessing in disguise that I did not meet the entry requirements, which led me to study theology instead at an international college. Many people have questioned why I, being in the F&B line, chose to study something seemingly so irrelevant. But my experience has proven otherwise: being equipped with Biblical knowledge and understanding enables me to lead more effectively, and I’m proud to say that I’m building this business based entirely upon Biblical insights, principles and values.

After all, my vision in life is to be four things: Theologian; Musician; Designer; Chef. Being in this business gives me the unique opportunity to pursue all four of them at once.

Olive Saw
Chief Administrative Steward

“Good morning, my name is Olive Saw, and welcome to my show.”

This was the tagline which I was saying for 15 years as Radio Producer-Presenter with the then Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (now Mediacorp). Today, I still have a tagline to say, but now it’s “Good evening, welcome to Stewords Riverboat.”

Being a family-run business, I was roped in to help run Santa Fe Tex-Mex Grill back in 1999 and today am still helping to run our restaurant business. My designation reads ‘Chief Administrative Steward’; however, I also help serve customers, ferry food supplies to and from our two outlets, and when the need arises, don the apron and do the kitchen ‘prep’ work.

Why am I still here – it is because I believe in the unique quality of our Tex-Mex food and the fact that Stewords Riverboat, a non-motorized replica of the Mississippi steamboats of the 1800’s, is the only one of its kind in Southeast Asia. I truly believe that on board Stewords Riverboat, diners can enjoy good authentic Tex-Mex food in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, much akin to having a good meal with family and friends at home.

So Come to the River for a refreshing, revitalized, and renewed dining experience.

Peter Ramdas
Executive Steward - Resources

Hi, I’m Peter and I am basically the ‘new kid on the block’. It’s a real privilege to be asked by Eric to join his team. Prior to this, I worked in a Christian Radio Station (Hope107FM), hosting programs and managing the station. I started work at the station without any broadcasting background. Learning the ropes and grappling with the challenges proved invaluable.

I joined this group of ‘stewards’ in August 2008, again without any F&B experience. However I have also joined them at a time where I can sense the ‘winds of change’. The company is re-positioning, consolidating and re-launching as we seek to ‘up the tempo’ and create the ultimate dining experience for our customers. As a member of the management team, I’m in the midst of exceptional talent and commitment. Every member of this team is hands on and I’m learning much from them.

This is a new and exciting journey for me and my family. In the last few months, I have come to love and respect all the stewards; from the front to the back of house. I would like to contribute and add value to this team; be available to all who need my help and see this company grow to its full potential as a business and as a ministry.
